Week 6 of the Alabama high school football season saw Holcomb’s remarkable achievements on the field recognized as he was named the CM Gridiron Coach of the Week. This well-deserved recognition followed the Panthers’ impressive 23-13 victory over the 6th-ranked Leeds Green Wave, extending their winning streak to six games.

Coach Holcomb’s journey to this moment has been marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his players. Now in his third season at the helm of the Panthers’ program, he has amassed a 16-13 record, including two playoff appearances. However, his impact stretches beyond his current role, as his coaching career has been defined by experiences on high school football biggest stages.

Before his tenure at Southside-Gadsden, Holcomb honed his coaching skills as an assistant at powerhouse Hoover High School and spent a year on the staff at Georgia’s Alpharetta High School. These experiences allowed him to learn from some of the best minds in the game, preparing him for his next head coaching role.

Holcomb’s first head coaching stint came at his alma mater, Crossville High School, where he led the Lions for two years. During his tenure, he led the 5A program to an 8-13 record and a trip to the postseason in 2017. This early experience was instrumental in shaping his coaching philosophy and further fueled his passion for the game.

With a career head coaching record of 24-25 over five seasons, including three playoff appearances, Holcomb has proven himself to be a resilient and adaptable leader. His ability to motivate and inspire his players has translated into on-field success, as evidenced by the Panthers’ current winning streak and their strong position in the region.

As the Southside-Gadsden Panthers enjoy a well-deserved week off, their focus remains on brining the Class 5A Region 6 title to Etowah County. Their next challenge awaits on September 10th when they return to Barney Hood Stadium to face the Alexandria Valley Cubs, who are still in search of their first win this season.
