In Week 8 of the Alabama high school football season, Benefield led his Fyffe Red Devils to a thrilling 56-42 victory over their Class 2A Region 7 rival, Pisgah Eagles. This victory not only improved the Red Devils’ record to an impressive 7-1 but also extended their winning streak to seven games. The game held special significance as both teams were tied as the number 3 team in Class 2A, according to the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Benefield’s coaching legacy goes way beyond a single victory. During his incredible 27-year tenure at Fyffe, he has compiled a remarkable 299-45 record. In the postseason, his teams have achieved a remarkable 58-19 record, highlighting their consistency and success. In region play, Benefield’s Red Devils have dominated with an outstanding 161-13 record, securing an impressive 19 region championships. Benefield has been the driving force behind establishing Fyffe High School as an Alabama high school football power with an amazing six AHSAA state football championships and six undefeated seasons.
With 344 career wins, Benefield is currently the 4th all-time winningest head coach in Alabama high school football history.
