Geraldine High School’s Mauricio Calderon has been named the CM Gridiron Defensive Player of the Week for week 10 of the Alabama high school football season.
Calderon secured an impressive 11,005 votes, constituting 33.73% of the total votes cast in a field of 12 defensive standouts from across the State of Alabama. His victory in this week’s poll reflects not only his popularity among fans but also recognition of his exceptional on-field performance.
This honor comes on the heels of Calderon’s standout performance in the Bulldogs’ 63-6 rout of the Hatton Hornets in the final game of the regular season. Calderon was a pillar of strength for the Bulldogs’ defense, contributing significantly to their resounding victory.
Calderon recorded seven tackles and a fumble recovery, showcasing his ability to read the game and disrupt the Hornets’ offense. His agility, speed, and knack for being in the right place at the right time were clearly evident as he consistently thwarted the Hornets’ efforts.
The defensive determination that Calderon displayed in the game against Hatton is indicative of why he was chosen by fans as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Calderon’s achievement undoubtedly brings pride to the Geraldine community, and his success serves as an inspiration to his teammates and budding football players across Sand Mountain.
We congratulate Mauricio Calderon on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing more of his defensive expertise as the Alabama high school football playoffs commence.
