The stage is set for a thrilling rematch in this week’s CM Gridiron Game of the Week. The defending state champion Fyffe Red Devils are gearing up to host the Pisgah Eagles this Friday night in the Class 2A north semifinal at Paul Benefield Stadium – a matchup that promises to be nothing short of electrifying.
The Red Devils have been on a formidable streak, winning 11 games straight with their only loss coming to Class 3A semifinalist Geraldine during Week 1. Since that setback, under the leadership of legendary Head Coach Paul Benefield, the team has rebounded in true Fyffe Red Devil fashion, securing six shutouts and 11 consecutive victories.
Their offensive prowess has been a sight to behold, amassing a whopping 616 points while holding their opponents to just 146. In their regular-season matchup, Fyffe emerged victorious against Pisgah with a score of 56-42. With eight straight region championships under their belt, the Red Devils are making their 5th appearance in the semifinals in the last six seasons.
Pisgah, however, is no pushover. Coming into the semifinal showdown with an impressive 12-1 record, their lone defeat was dealt by none other than Fyffe. Head Coach Luke Pruitt’s offense has proven to be a formidable force, racking up over 50 points in seven contests while limiting opponents to 303 points.
This Friday’s game marks the 34th meeting between the two Sand Mountain teams since their first encounter in 1956. Fyffe has had the upper hand in recent history, winning the last five meetings between the two schools, which are separated by a mere 20 miles.
As the anticipation builds, both squads will be looking to bring their A-game in what promises to be a high-stakes duel for the right for a trip to the AHSAA Super 7 Championships at Bryant-Denny Stadium. With a place in the finals at stake, expect nothing less than a fiercely fought contest between these two northeast Alabama powers.
