West Morgan High School head football coach Drew Phillips has been nominated for the CM Gridiron Coach of the Year poll. The CM Gridiron interactive, fan-driven voting system recognizes the most successful and impactful head coaches in Alabama high school football.
In 2023, Phillips led the Class 4A program to a 12-1 record, including their first region title since 2017 and their first 12-win season in the program’s 57-year history.
Notably, the Rebels set a program record for points scored, putting up an outstanding 663 points over the course of 13 games. Their 2023 campaign was highlighted by scoring a staggering 83 points in a single game and advancing to the Class 3A quarterfinals before narrowly losing to eventual state runner-up Cherokee County by just one point.
Over the course of his four seasons with the Rebels, Phillips holds a commendable 27-8 record. His coaching acumen and the team’s consistent improvement under his leadership have earned him a well-deserved appearance in the CM Gridiron Coach of the Year poll.
As we approach the voting period for this year’s Coach of the Year, fans will have unlimited opportunities to cast their votes for Phillips. The matchups for the voting will be announced in early January. Given Phillips’ track record and the Rebels’ recent season, it’s clear that he is a strong contender for the prestigious award.
