Following a historic run in 2023, Locust Fork head football coach Billy Adams has been nominated to appear in this year’s CM Gridiron interactive Coach of the Year poll. CM Gridirion’s fan-driven voting system honors the most effective and influential coaches in Alabama high school football.
Coach Adams led Locust Fork to a remarkable 12-1 record, securing their first region championship since 2001. The Hornets’ 2023 campaign was historic as it marked the first 12-win season in the program’s 86 year history. It was also notable for setting a team record for scoring, with the Hornets putting up an eye-popping 685 points.
Under Adams’ leadership, the Hornets set another program record for margin of victory, with a 62-0 week eight victory over the Gaston Bulldogs. The Hornets’ stingy defense held opponents to just 191 points, pitching three shutouts and holding seven opponents to one score or less.
The Hornets’ outstanding 2023 season concluded in the AHSAA Class 2A quarterfinals, where they fell to the powerhouse Fyffe Red Devils. Despite this setback, Adams’ overall performance as head coach remains impressive: in his four seasons at the helm of the Hornet’s program, he holds a 22-12 record, including a pair of postseason appearances and a region title.
As the voting period for this year’s Coach of the Year approaches, fans will have the opportunity to cast unlimited votes for Coach Adams. The matchups for the voting will be announced in early January. Given Adams’ proven track record and the Hornets’ recent success, he is undeniably a strong contender for this prestigious award.
