CM Gridiron Coach of the Year Nominee Profile: Matt Johnson | Reeltown Rebels

Reeltown head football coach Matt Johnson has earned a spot on this year’s CM Gridiron interactive Coach of the Year poll. The CM Gridiron fan-driven voting system honors the most impactful and effective coaches in Alabama high school football.

In 2023, Coach Johnson led the Reeltown Rebels to a 13-1 record, a region title, and an appearance in the AHSAA Super 7 Championships. The Rebels had an undefeated regular season and ended with a runner-up finish in Class 2A. Johnson’s potent Rebel offense put up an impressive 578 points while only surrendering 210 points.

Johnson has been at the helm of the Reeltown program for eight years, during which he has guided the Rebels to a combined 68-28 record. His leadership and strategic prowess have resulted in two state runner-up finishes, four region titles, and a remarkable 44-10 mark in region play.

As the voting period for this year’s Coach of the Year approaches, fans will have unlimited opportunities to cast their votes for Coach Johnson. The matchups for the voting will be announced in early January. Given Johnson’s proven track record and the recent success of the Rebels, he is undoubtedly a strong contender for this prestigious award.
