Chris Elmore, head coach for the Fort Payne Wildcats, has been nominated for the coveted CM Gridiron Coach of the Year award. The award, determined by CM Gridiron’s, unlimited, interactive voting system driven by fans, will have its matchups announced in early January.
Coach Elmore led the Wildcats to a commendable 7-5 record in 2023, which included a journey to the second round of the Class 6A postseason.
The Wildcats’ 2023 season was punctuated by several notable victories. Among them were wins over Class 4A powerhouse Cherokee County and a first-round playoff victory over the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils. These signature wins demonstrated the Wildcat’s competitive spirit and their ability to perform under high-stakes conditions.
A native of Fort Payne, Coach Elmore returned home to DeKalb County after leading the Chelsea Hornets to a 27-25 record from 2013-2017. Since his return in 2018, he has guided the Wildcats to a 44-24 record, including six consecutive playoff berths and two region titles. His career head coaching record currently stands at 71-49 over 12 seasons.
