CM Gridiron Coach of the Year Nominee Profile: Bo Culver | Haleyville Lions

Haleyville High School head football coach Bo Culver has been nominated for the esteemed CM Gridiron Coach of the Year award. The award, determined by CM Gridiron’s unlimited interactive voting system driven by fans, will announce its matchups in early January.

In the 2023 season, Coach Culver led the Haleyville Lions to an 8-4 record and a second-place finish in Class 4A, Region 5. The Lions’ campaign was marked by significant victories, including wins over top ten ranked and previously undefeated Corner, as well as a first-round playoff victory over the North Jackson Chiefs.

Culver recently completed the second season of his second stint patrolling the sidelines at Haleyville’s Bubba Scott Field. Since returning to Haleyville in 2022, he has posted a 14-9 record and made consecutive trips to the postseason. His first tenure at Haleyville, from 2014 to 2016, saw him post a 25-10 record, including a region title and an appearance in the Class 4A quarterfinals in 2014.

Having made head coaching stops at Phil Campbell, Deshler, Hartselle, and East Lawrence, Culver brings a wealth of experience to the table. His career head coaching record currently stands at 77-59, which includes nine playoff appearances, two region crowns, and a trip to the AHSAA Class 4A state title game with the Deshler Tigers in 2018.

Culver’s nomination for the CM Gridiron Coach of the Year is a recognition of his consistent success and dedication to Alabama high school football. As fans eagerly await the announcement polling matchups, it’s clear that regardless of the outcome, Coach Bo Culver has already left an indelible mark on Alabama high school football.
