First year Sylvania Rams head football coach Tanner Nelson has been named CM Gridiron’s Coach of the Week for week three of the Alabama high school football season. Nelson has already made a significant impact in his inaugural season at the helm of the Rams program.
Under Nelson’s leadership, the Rams are coming off an impressive 17-7 victory over arch-rival Geraldine. This win was not just any victory—it was a hard-fought win over the 6th ranked Bulldogs, marking a significant upset in the north Alabama high school football landscape. The Rams’ defensive strategy held the formidable Bulldogs at bay, while the offense skillfully navigated the field to secure the win.
Currently boasting a 2-1 record and a perfect 2-0 mark in Class 3A, Region 8 play, the Rams are off to a strong start.
Before taking the top job at Sylvania, Nelson spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Collinsville. During his last season with the Panthers, he orchestrated a potent offense that racked up an impressive 424 points, leading Collinsville to an 8-3 record in 2023. This experience paved the way for him to step into his first head coaching role with the Rams, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the game.
