Legendary Hokes Bluff Eagles head football coach Michael Robertson has been named CM Gridiron’s Coach of the Week for week four of the Alabama high school football season. This accolade comes as no surprise to those familiar with Robertson’s storied career and the impressive start the Eagles have had this season.
The Eagles, under Robertson’s guidance, have soared to a perfect 4-0 record, solidifying their position at the top of Class 4A, Region 6 with a 3-0 mark in region play. Their most recent victory was an impressive 37-18 road win over the Anniston Bulldogs on their home turf at Lott/Mosby Memorial Stadium.
Robertson’s roots run deep within the Hokes Bluff community. He graduated as valedictorian from Hokes Bluff High School in 1977, where he shined as an outstanding athlete, earning All-County honors in three sports. His achievements include playing quarterback on both state champion and runner-up football squads, contributing to three state championship baseball teams, and having his No. 2 jersey retired in 1977—a testament to his influence and talent.
Robertson embarked on his teaching and coaching career in 1981, beginning as an assistant coach at Southside-Gadsden before returning to Hokes Bluff in 1984. Taking the reins as head coach in 1996, Robertson has crafted a legacy that includes a 183-133 record over 29 seasons, with 16 playoff appearances, a region title in 1999, and a Class 3A state title in 2001. His exceptional contributions to high school sports were recognized with his induction into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.
