CM Gridiron Coach of the Week | Paul Benefield | Fyffe Red Devils

In an impressive showcase of leadership and strategy, legendary Fyffe Red Devils head football coach Paul Benefield has been named CM Gridiron’s Coach of the Week for Week 9 of the Alabama high school football season. The recognition comes in the wake of the Red Devils’ dominant 42-7 victory over Dekalb County rival Geraldine, a triumph celebrated in the stadium that bears Benefield’s name.

The win against Geraldine marked another milestone in a season punctuated by remarkable achievements for Benefield and his team. It propelled the two-time defending state champion Red Devils to a 7-2 record for the 2024 season, maintaining a flawless 7-0 run in Class 3A, Region 8 play. With this victory, the Devils not only clinched their ninth consecutive region title but also secured their 13th title in the past 14 seasons—a testament to the enduring excellence of the Fyffe program under Benefield’s guidance.

Throughout his extraordinary 28-year tenure at the helm of the Fyffe program, Benefield has amassed a remarkable 313-47 overall record, including a staggering 169-13 mark in region play. His leadership has resulted in 20 region titles and seven state championships, underscoring his reputation as one of the most successful high school football not only in Alabama but nationwide. He is currently the third all-time winningest head football coach in Alabama high school football history.

With a bye in the final week of the regular season, the Red Devils are poised to leverage their momentum as they prepare to host a round one playoff game on November 8th. Under Benefield’s strategic direction, Fyffe’s focus will be on extending their legacy of success and making a run to Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
